Yamaha Vino Classic

It wasn’t long after the purchase of our first scooter, a Yamaha Zuma, that my husband and I decided one wouldn’t be enough for the both of us. When looking for a scooter we knew we had a price range to stick to as well as wanting to stick with a Japanese based scooter company. We were thinking about either a Honda or a Yamaha, and we already knew we really liked Yamaha’s so we decided to go that route.
We ended up finding a 2007 Vino at a shop in Hastings, Michigan. It was black and absolutely perfect (see picture above). Seeing as we already had the Yamaha credit card (they offer financing) we went that route. The Vino has turned out to be the perfect scooter for me for a number of reasons:
- Classic style, which I love!
- Lightweight, easy to move around
- Easy to drive
- Lots of under seat storage
- Comfortable seat for long rides
- Handle bars lock
- Extra lock for back wheel to ensure safe keeping
- All the gages you’ll need
- Around 100 mpg! Best perk about the Vino!
If anyone has any comments or questions about the Vino I would love to hear them! Don’t hesitate to send pictures!

I’m also looking at the Vino. I keep on going back and forth between the classic and the 150. My main hold up is a short 45mph zone on my way to work. To be safe, I need a scooter that will go at lest 40mph. Will the classic do 40 or should I go with the 150cc?

My scooter averages about 30-35, and does about 40 going more downhill. However, my scooter is in the break in period right now so that will probably change a little bit. My husband has also told me that there are “kits” to make the Vino go faster.
The Zuma is also worth checking out, it’s a little bit bigger and goes a little faster (in the 50cc range). If you have a motorcycle endorsement on your license a 150cc would be worth checking out. If you can, test drive one of each to see what you like better. Just remember for the first 600 miles or so it’s the “break in period” so you can’t go full throttle quite yet.
Hope that helps, if you have any other questions please let us know!

Depending on where you live though, the 50cc in MD doesn’t need a tag or insurance. Well worth giving up the speed if you use it for intown riding.

I got my Vino about 2 months ag and LOVE it. I have a 13 mile trip to work, so round trip is 26 miles. That makes it about 1 gallon of gas per week to and from work. Ya just can’t beat that. There is 1 section of road that is 55mph and anouther that is 45mph, but I just go as though I was 1 of the big bigs. I do stay in the right lane and pull a little closer to the edge when I have traffic be hind me. Don’t let a speed limit discourage you. Remember the posted speed is the MAXIMUM you can go, you can always go slower.
I also went out and bought a fire engine lime green vest with 2″ florecent strips over both shoulders and 2 around the waist ( I WANT to be seen).
The only “trouble” I have had is the mirrors are not wide enough for me to see behind me, I have modified the left mirror with a 4″ extension that works GREAT. Only trouble now is the right mirror …. is an 8mm reverse thread bolt and I can not find one of these ANYWHERE. But with the left mirror modified it is just fine.

Hi Jen. Say, how much did you pay for your Yamaha Vino? I want one but I want to make sure I get a good price. Thanks!

Hi Kate!
I paid 1800 for mine, but I did get an older model the year I bought it. Which actually the only difference is color… so to get the best deal that’s the way to go!
But all in all, the scooter really pays for itself. I park downtown for FREE instead of paying 20-50$ a month for parking plus gas for a car. So that’s amazing in itself.
If you go with the Vino you’ll love it I’m sure! Hope that helps.

I just bought a 2001 Vino, obviously it’s used, but I’m a little disappointed. I drove a Zuma for awhile which I looved, and feel that a Zuma is faster, even though they’re both 50cc. Is that possible? The Vino is cuter, but for performance, I prefer the Zuma by far. Zuma has larger tires, more storage, and a little more zip. I thought there was something wrong with my Vino since I can only get it up to 31/32mph. The Zuma maxed out at 42/43mph. Could there be something wrong if I can only go 30mph? I figured since they’re both the same size engine, they’d drive the same?

Heather,
Your Vino might be restricted still. Also, check things like your tire pressure, and your spark plug. A new plug and the correct pressure in your tires can do wonders for a scooter. The Zuma is meant to be a “sport” scooter, and can be made to go quite fast actually. From stock, the Zuma would be a tad faster, but with the right after market gear, the Vino could end up being a faster scooter, due to it being lighter. I hope this helps and as always, if there is more questions, let me know!
